Where local authorities have designated an AQMA, they have a duty under section 84(2) of the Environment Act 1995 to produce an Air Quality Action Plan. This plan must set out what measures the authority intends to introduce in pursuit of the air quality objectives. It should also include timescales to indicate by when the measures will be implement.
The first step in producing the action plan has commenced, namely source apportionment of the nitrogen dioxide. This is an investigation into where the emissions are coming from.
