Teignbridge District Council has an established programme of continuous air quality monitoring dating back to 2003 and periodic monitoring data ( nitrogen dioxide diffusion tube samplers) dating back to 1993. In November 2005, Teignbridge declared four Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in Newton Abbot (the road network of the town); Kingskerswell (A380 through the village); Teignmouth (Bitton Park Road area) and Dawlish (Iddesleigh Terrace area). This is because the Government health based objectives for nitrogen dioxide, a pollutant associated with traffic emissions, was being exceeded at a number of residential properties. If you are interested in viewing the boundaries of the AQMAs please click on the following link http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=4003
Teignbridge must now draw up a package of measures in conjunction with Devon County Council and other stakeholders, that are considered to be the most appropriate and cost effective way of reducing the pollution. This is termed an Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).
This website is intended to be an online resource of near real-time air quality data and periodic (monthly) not only for Teignbridge residents but also for students and medical health professionals.
